history

Vic Bridger and his great mate Wally Horsfall who were neighbours at Slade Point decided in 1971 to approach Mackay Cricket about entering an U11 side into the 1972 junior competition as Slade Point Cricket Club known as "The Slade Point Slashers". Their reason was to capture the young talent in Slade Point who were playing cricket in parks, back yards, and streets.  In their first season they claimed the premiership. The interest from the Slade Point area began to grow, and over the next few years they entered other junior sides.  Interest also grew over the ensuing years from the rapidly expanding Northern Beaches, Beaconsfield, and Andergrove areas and in 1980, with numbers in the juniors growing, Vic and other members of the Slade Point Cricket Club executive met and decided to change the name of the club to Northern Suburbs Cricket Club. Norths entered sides in the senior competition to complement the many junior sides and by 1982 the 1st Grade side claimed the prestigious Poole Cup. The Club has been successful in winning many more premierships in various grades over the years, and claim the honour of winning the Senior Club Championship more times than any other club since 1984.  In July 2010 Norths officially opened their home playing field at Wanderers Football Park, which the club shares with Wanderers Football Club and named the ground the "The Bridger Family Oval" named after Vic, his wife and daughter, and his sons Graeme and Bruce Bridger, who are North's current Club Patrons. Vic is considered the "Father" of our proud club".
