Leadership set for 2021-22

The Norths’ leadership team has been set for 2021-22 following the recent Annual General Meeting, and they will be looking forward to driving the Club forward towards even greater success in the season ahead.

Congratulations to stalwart Peter Shepherd, who was named Club President for a second term after taking the helm in 2020. Shepherd has played over 230 matches for the Club, hitting more than 6,000 runs and is highly respected by all at the Club. As Director of his own business, ShepElec Contracting Services, Shepherd has plenty of experience as a leader and in setting the direction for success.

Shepherd will be supported by sport management professional, Dale Bryant, as Vice-President for 2021-22. Bryant (165 matches, 4,000 runs & 210 wickets) has over 20 years in sport management including stints with Qld Cricket and currently Cricket NSW and has a deep understanding of community cricket clubs.

First Grade all-rounder, Jason Butterworth (186 matches for 3,600 runs & 216 wickets), returns for his 3rd season as Secretary, the toughest role on the committee. His ability to help guide and develop the area’s youngsters as a primary school teacher certainly stands him in good stead to help steer the committee in 2021-22. He will be ably assisted by popular Women’s player, Tez McLoughlin (23 matches, 89 runs, 6 wickets and a 1,000 laughs). Tez was outstanding as COVID Marshall in 2020-21.

Laren Dyer (48 matches with a highest score of 214*), the Director of Finance & Operations at A & L Smash Repairs, utilises his finance skills to oversee the Club’s accounts as Treasurer for a 2nd year. He will be supported by the experienced accounting professional, Karen Penfold, who has over 15 years tenure as Senior Management Accountant with Mackay Sugar.

The roles of Senior, Junior and Women’s Cricket Coordinators are vital for the Club and with Shepherd, Mandy Mohan and Ayesha Billington filling those roles respectively, our players are well looked after. Mohan continues the Junior role and has been an important part of recruiting aspiring young cricketers, like sons Finn (now playing seniors) and Tighe (U12s), and daughter Keeva (U14/15s). Billington (19 matches, 77 runs & 6 wickets), coming into her 3rd season at the club, will be looking to drive female cricket to new heights in 2021-22.

The effervescent Naomee Roberts (24 matches, 228 runs & 11 wickets) has joined the committee for the 1st time in 2021 and will utilise her social media & website experience to drive customer experience and engagement as Digital Media Coordinator.

Club legend, Wayne Kohler (multiple 1st Grade premiership winning captain with 273 matches, 3,600 runs & 457 wickets) will take over the reigns as Club Coach and will be looking to create a positive, driven and fun environment to help support the players towards glory in 2021-22.

Life member, Glenice Bryant, will utilise her decades of scoring experience as the Club’s Statistician again in 2021-22.

And finally, Wayne Carvolth (259 matches, 5,300 runs, 291 wickets 73 catches & 5 stumpings), will take up the role of Grounds Coordinator for the Club, an important role to ensure the Club maintains high quality training & playing facilities for all of its members.

An update was also provided at the AGM on the draft Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan sub-committee has completed Phase 1 which has outlined the proposed Purpose, Vision, Values, Mission, and Core Pillars. It has also laid out a set of Strategic Objectives and Performance Goals that will be a strong indicator of success for the Club.

Following Phase 1, the Club would like to release the initial draft Strategic Plan to its members and invites feedback from you by 31 August. After this feedback period, the committee will continue on with Phase 2, which will involve fleshing out the strategies required to achieve success across those goals.

If you have any feedback on Phase 1 of the Strategic Plan, please submit in the feedback form below.
